Spanish motorcycling has once again been shaken by the loss of one of its young talents. Pau Alsina, a 17-year-old rider from Salent de Llobregat, born in 2008, has died after failing to recover from severe injuries sustained during an accident last Saturday while training at the MotorLand Aragón circuit in the municipality of Alcañiz (Teruel). His death was confirmed on Monday, following several days in a hospital in Zaragoza, where he underwent multiple surgeries.
During the training session, Alsina was thrown over his motorcycle and suffered a serious head injury. Despite medical efforts, his condition worsened over time. The Government of Aragón expressed its condolences via social media, stating: "The Government of Aragón expresses its sincerest condolences for the death of the Catalan rider Pau Alsina, 17 years old, after an accident last Saturday during a training session at MotorLand Aragón."
Alsina's death comes less than three weeks after the loss of Borja Gómez, another Spanish rider aged 20, who died during free practice for the Supersport category of the JuniorGP at the Magny-Cours circuit in France. Gómez, originally from Murcia, was seen as one of Spain's most promising motorcycling talents, with a career path that was leading him toward the MotoGP World Championship. His death was confirmed by the Royal Spanish Motorcycling Federation in an official statement. The close timing of both deaths has caused a deep impact among fellow riders, coaches, and fans within the Spanish motorcycling community.
